Ramadan 2027 is expected roughly from February into early March. The exact start and end depend on the sighting of the new moon, so the dates are confirmed only shortly before. If your trip falls in that window, the food side of Marrakech looks different, and some tours adjust what they offer.

KECHCOOK starts with fifteen minutes at a market near the host’s home and a tea ceremony, then cooks as a team: typically beef with prunes, chicken with preserved lemon, a vegetable tagine, kefta, shakshuka and zaalouk, served as a buffet. With fewer than eight guests there are fewer dishes.

About this tour

Khmisa Workshops is the most-reviewed cooking class on this site. You meet at the green door by the Bab Doukkala Mosque, shop at a local market away from the tourist lanes and then cook three to six dishes with Moroccan cooks, finishing with milk pastilla and eating what you made.

The price shown here is for the class with the market visit. The same listing also sells a cheaper Ramadan evening session without the market, so check which session you pick when you book. Hotel pickup is not included.

Highlights

  • Harira, msemen and snail broth or sheep’s head, depending on the route
  • Raib and pastries for dessert
  • Dinner at an open-air grill or a local restaurant
  • Mint tea with a herbalist

About this tour

One Life Trips runs two routes. One includes babbouche, snails slow-cooked in a herb broth; the other includes rass mbekher, steamed sheep’s head with cumin, sometimes swapped for shawarma or falafel. Both finish with a full dinner at an open-air grill or a local restaurant.

During Ramadan the dinner is dropped. The route usually includes a short stop at a herbalist for mint tea and spices, which some reviewers found too long. The listing names no diet options, and hotel pickup is not included.

  • Moroccan mint tea
  • Dinner at an open-air grill or a local restaurant (not during Ramadan)

Know before you go

  • Wear comfortable walking shoes
  • The route varies by guide, season and schedule
  • The dinner is not available during Ramadan

Daytime and evening

During the day most food stalls stay closed. Eating and drinking in the street during fasting hours is best avoided out of courtesy. At sunset the city breaks the fast, often with harira, dates and chebakia, the sesame and honey pastry of the season.

Food tours

One Life Trips states that its dinner is not part of the walk during Ramadan; the tastings remain. The other evening food tours say nothing about Ramadan on their listings. Confirm the programme for your date with the operator once you have booked.

Cooking classes

Among the cooking classes, KECHCOOK states that it runs during Ramadan. Khmisa Workshops sells a separate Ramadan evening session without the market walk, which is cheaper than the regular class with the market. For the other classes the listing gives no rule.

Around Eid

Ramadan ends with Eid al-Fitr, a public holiday. Some stalls and shops may close, so check with the operator if your tour falls on it.
