Group size
Only a few listings put a number on the group size. Flavors of Marrakesh states ten, A Chef’s Tour eight. Reiseführer Abdo, Marrakech Guided Experience and One Life Trips name no maximum, and on another platform One Life Trips lists up to thirty guests for what looks like the same walk. Reviewers of Marrakech Guided Experience describe a group larger than announced. Withlocals and Urban Adventures sell their walks here as private tours, so only your own party walks with the guide. In a narrow souk lane, the difference between eight and twenty-five people decides if you hear the guide and get a seat at the stall. At the moment the shared walks cost €29–€44 per person, the small-group tours €49–€52 and the private tours €79–€138. The small-group page compares the tours with a stated limit.
Unusual dishes
The classic evening menu is gentle: harira soup with dates, msemen and sfenj, kefta, tangia from the clay pot, mint tea and something sweet. The adventurous part is optional and depends on the route. Babbouche are snails slow-cooked in a herb broth; rass mbekher is a steamed sheep’s head seasoned with cumin. One Life Trips names both, one per route, and sometimes swaps the sheep’s head for shawarma or falafel. Other tours do not list them, but a bowl of snails can still come round as an extra. If you would rather skip them, tell the guide when you meet; it is a normal request.
Diet options
Diet information is where the listings differ most. This is what each one states:
| Tour | What the listing says |
| Reiseführer Abdo | Veg, vegan, gluten-free |
|---|
| Urban Adventures | Veg, vegan; no gluten-free |
|---|
| Withlocals | Vegetarian on request |
|---|
| Flavors of Marrakesh | Allergies on request |
|---|
| A Chef’s Tour | Not vegan or coeliac |
Marrakech Guided Experience and One Life Trips name no diet options at all. Whatever the listing says, tell the operator before the day. A Chef’s Tour points to the cross-contamination risk at street stalls, and that applies everywhere: a guide can steer you away from meat or wheat but cannot promise a kitchen free of traces. The vegetarian page adds the cooking classes.
Shop stops
A short stop, and buying is up to you
One Life Trips includes a short visit to a herbalist for mint tea and spices as part of the route; some reviewers found it too long. On the Marrakech Guided Experience walk a pharmacy stop can come up, and one review of Reiseführer Abdo mentions a shop with a short presentation. The small-group tours list no such stop. If a stop is not what you came for, a friendly no thank you ends it.
What the price includes
The cheapest walk is mostly street stalls and small vendors, ten to twelve tastings with drinks and no restaurant dinner. One Life Trips and Urban Adventures end with a full sit-down dinner, the latter at a stall on the square. Withlocals counts ten tastings and two soft drinks. Tips are extra everywhere they are mentioned, and none of the food tours includes hotel pickup: you walk or take a taxi to the meeting point, and Reiseführer Abdo can arrange transport for a fee. The table above shows the current price of each tour.
Evenings and Ramadan
Nearly every tour starts in the early evening, when the stalls on Jemaa el-Fnaa are set up and the day’s heat has eased. In summer the medina stays warm well after dark, and the walks cover a few kilometres on foot, so wear comfortable shoes and keep water with you. In winter the evenings turn cool; Urban Adventures asks for modest clothing with shoulders and knees covered, which also keeps you warm. During Ramadan, expected roughly from February into early March 2027 depending on the moon sighting, daytime food is scarce and One Life Trips drops its dinner.
Cooking classes instead
A food tour gives you many dishes in one evening. A cooking class gives you fewer dishes but shows you how they are made, and several classes start with a market visit in the morning. Many visitors book the food tour on the first evening and a class a few days later.
